ROLLINSFORD -- Okay. Before you Beacons fans out there grab your chests and have heart attacks, just remember this season of potential perfection is all part of an incredible story that has yet to unfold come tournament time.
Yes, it's true the team managed by Bob Cook has not won a single game this season and is proudly waving a record of 0-15. It is also true they lost Sunday because they didn't have enough players and had to forfeit. Cook and Claffey were two of the many players who had better things to do with their time than help their team win, I guess.
I heard that Cook was attending some softball junkett at Patriots Place with his wife and kid and Claffey was just being Claffey...
If people can just take a breath and count to 10, they might be able to connect the dots and like the picture that begins to form. This team of loveable losers is going to win it all this year.
You heard it here first. Their improbable run to the Dover Co-Rec League title will begin with an impressive five-game winning streak with unbelievable wins and last at-bat heroics.
Cook will pump new life into those creaky knees and run like the wind around the basepaths. Todd Young will be unconscious right field and Phil Fernald will post is first shut out.
The capper will be a walk-off homerun by the coach that will go off the defunct left field scoreboard after he calls it at the plate and stares down the pitcher.
For reasons that only the softball Gods can fathom, the Beacons will do no wrong and capture the title from perennial favorites like Navy Yard, Chumley's and Team Awareness.
I know you still don't believe me, but if the Red Sox can win two World Series in five years... Just think about it.
